Official Player's Handbook

The Secret
Magic League

A step-by-step guide for initiates — from installation of the arcane tools to the final duel.

Phase I — Preparation & Installation
I

🛡️ Install Radmin VPN Install

Download and install Radmin VPN from the official Radmin website. This creates a private virtual network so all players share a common game room regardless of physical location.

  • Run the installer and follow the default setup prompts.
  • Once installed, launch Radmin VPN and join the league's private network using the network name and password provided by your host.
💡 Keep Radmin VPN running in the background for the entire session — closing it will break your connection to other players.
II

⚙️ Install Forge Install

Download Forge (the Magic: The Gathering simulator) from the official Forge MTG repository or the link shared by your host. Install and launch it at least once before the session to let it generate its default configuration.

  • Forge requires Java — ensure you have a recent JDK or JRE installed.
  • On first launch, let Forge download any asset updates it requests.
III

💬 Install Discord & Join the Server Install

Download and install Discord from discord.com. Create an account if you don't already have one, then log in.

  • Use the invite link provided by your host to join the league's Discord server.
  • Confirm you can see the server's channels before the session starts.
💡 Make sure your microphone and audio are working — you'll need voice chat during matches.
Phase II — Drafting & Deck Setup
IV

🃏 Join a Draftmancer Session Action

Navigate to draftmancer.com and join the session using the room link or code provided by your host. Complete your draft, building your pool of cards.

  • Once the draft ends, move to the Deck Builder view within Draftmancer and craft your 40-card deck (or whatever format your host specifies).
  • When satisfied, click Export and choose Magic Arena format (.txt).
  • Save the exported file somewhere easy to find (e.g., your Desktop).
💡 Double-check your deck is complete before exporting — changes after the fact can cause confusion during pairings.
V

📥 Import Your Deck into Forge Action

Open Forge and navigate to the Deck Manager (usually found under Home → Constructed / Limited → My Decks).

  • Click Import and select your exported Arena-format .txt file.
  • Save the deck with a distinct, memorable name — include your username or the event name to avoid mixing it up with older decks (e.g., SML_Draft1_Azorius_YourName).
⚠️ Always save as a new deck — never overwrite a previous one. Overwriting can cause irreversible data loss if you need to review past matches.
Phase III — Playing Your Matches
VI

🎙️ Discord — Find Your Table Voice Channel Action

Return to the league's Discord server. Pairings for each round are posted in the designated pairings channel or on the Draftmancer site (check both).

  • Locate your pairing and identify your table number.
  • Join the voice channel corresponding to your table (e.g., #table-3-voice) so you and your opponent share audio.
  • Greet your opponent and confirm you're both ready before starting Forge.
VII

⚔️ Sync & Play Your Match Play

In Forge, navigate to Multiplayer / Network Game. One player hosts and shares their Radmin VPN IP address; the other connects to that IP.

  • Before starting — verify you have the correct deck selected (the one you just imported). Selecting the wrong deck is a common mistake.
  • Play a best-of-three match: first player to win 2 games wins the round.
  • After each game, you may sideboard between games if applicable to your format.
  • Report your match result in the #results channel on Discord once finished.
💡 Communicate clearly with your opponent on Discord voice throughout — call game states, concessions, and anything unusual out loud.

⚠️ Network Errors & Gameplay Issues

If you encounter connection drops, network errors, or unexpected gameplay bugs at any point during your session — whether in Radmin VPN, Forge, or Draftmancer — do not attempt to resolve disputes through guesswork.

Refer immediately to the official Tournament Rules document shared by your host. It covers disconnection protocols, game state reconstruction, concession rules, and how to handle edge cases. When in doubt, pause the game, consult the document, and call for a judge or host via Discord.
